Historically, the split off the Sunni-Shia split is traced back after the death of the prophet Mohammed. It was in the year 632 when the prophet died to lead to the schism between the Sunni and Shia. There was dispute success of Muhammad as a caliph who was to lead the Islamic community (Esposito, Fasching and Lewis 2014). News about the Caliph spread across the globe leading to a battle of Siffin.
