Despite the significant role played by the United Kingdom in the European Union in recent times, the UK has been experiencing a fluctuating relationship with the EU. With decades of a series of constant and developing debate concerning the UK membership in EU, the first Brexit referendum was in 1975, where the majority of the UK constituent supported to retain UK’s membership in the European Union which was at that time known as the European Economic Community (EEC).
