Pertussis is primarily an acute and toxic mediated respiratory disease which is caused by bacteria known as Bordetella pertussis. The disease is clinically represented in any of the following ways; gradual onset of mild symptoms in the upper respiratory tract comprising of sneezing, low grade fever, running nose and mild cough which normally last between one to two weeks (Wendelboe et al., 2005).
