The Lesson is a narrative by Toni Cade Bambara concerning a young, poor, black girl that was first published in 1972. Despite writing several stories, The Lesson is one of Bambara’s best stories due to the nature she focuses on the life of children and social justice. In this story, Sylvia is one of the main characters with is outspoken and sarcastic as they learn the lessons concerning the bitter realities of life.
