Enzymes can be defined to be compounds with high molecular weight made up of amino acids chains which are linked together by peptide bonds. They are organic catalysts produced by living organisms. The rate of chemical reactions is increased by enzymes by lowering the free energy barrier which acts to separate the products and the reactants.
