Japanese economy used to have an extractive institution for a long period. The Tokugawa family was one of the most powerful emperors of Japan lasting for more than 200 years (Broadbridge, 2012). They used the feudal rule in Japan and had an isolation policy that did not allow Japanese people to leave for overseas and banned them from accepting foreign cultures.
