Self-assembly can be defined to be a spontaneous process of the organisation of molecular units that are seen to be chaotic into structures that are well ordered as a results of intermolecular/intramolecular interactions. The balance of the forces which are attractive/repulsive between and within the molecules controls the process of self-assembly.
